Jim’s Diary – 2nd February

Thank God January is over. I’m now racking my brains to try and find somewhere that we
can go and live for January next year. It is just so depressing being here. I’ve never seen so
much rain and so many miserable grey days.
January is also the time I get a terrible cold and this year I got a beauty that turned into a
chest infection. You don’t realise how important your chest is until you can’t breathe.
I did a gig in Blackpool and my voice disappeared after 50 minutes. The audience felt a bit
sorry for me but there were still people that complained afterwards that I didn’t do long
enough. Perhaps if I did drop dead for an encore they would have been happy.
I’m still knackered. I’ve also got a bit of a sore knee again, I must get something done
about it.

A few gigs under the belt so far, North Hampton at the really strange deco theatre. It has
a very small downstairs audience and a huge upstairs audience. It is bizarre. But it was busy
and I had a good night and a catch up with the brilliant owner Kevin.
I drove back home that night. One hour and a half.

The next morning I set off on the 3 1/2 hour trip to Great yarmouth , a quick ham egg and
chips in the prom hotel, then John and I set off For Hunsanton a further hour and a half
north.
After a great show we drove back to Great Yarmouth have a quick Chinese takeaway in the
hotel a few glasses of wine and then off to bed. Six hours later I was up and drove back.
I didn’t realise how much these long driving trips make you tired. I do realise it now as last
night on stage in leatherhead I’d got cramp and out of breath and generally exhausted.
I’m not surprised I’m 72 years of age now not 19… But I got a standing ovation from a
fantastic audience and went home to bed. I’m still in bed now, dictating this to my laptop.

Jim Davidson’s Big Dick Whittington is on sale at the Tivoli theatre in Wimborne. It sold
300 tickets on the first day of release, that is reassuring as this show is costing a fortune.
It’s only on for seven performances from the 16th of June for six days.
Get on to the box office and book now as it’s only a small theatre and the tickets will be
snapped up.
